Senior Epidemiology and Surveillance Officer

About the role

The Senior Epidemiology and Surveillance Officer will lead the implementation of epidemiology and surveillance activities for the STRIDES programme in Vietnam. Reporting to senior management, the officer will supervise staff, collaborate with national health security actors, and provide technical guidance to ministries and partners.

Key responsibilities

• Provide overall technical direction on epidemiology and surveillance to project staff.
• Support capacity building for staff and partners on surveillance methods.
• Maintain project protocols, data sets, manuals, training materials, and reports.
• Coordinate with STRIDES Vietnam and US teams to ensure technical soundness and compliance with SOPs.
• Develop technical briefs, reports, and best‑practice documents.
• Analyze project implementation, identify improvement areas, and propose technical strategies.
• Assist with research study implementation, providing technical support and field coordination.
• Mentor team members and foster team building at the task level.
• Contribute to the development and dissemination of tools, materials, and publications.

Required profile

• Extensive experience in epidemiology, disease surveillance, and public health.
• Proven ability to supervise staff and collaborate with national health authorities.
• Strong analytical skills to assess project performance and recommend improvements.
• Excellent written communication for reports, briefs, and publications.
• Ability to work across multiple stakeholders and manage technical aspects of projects.
