Automation & AI Tooling Intern (Python/ML/Simulink)

About the role

The Occupant Safety Systems (OSS) team at Bosch develops and produces airbag ECUs used in millions of vehicles worldwide. As an intern you will support the Calibration Automation and AI Tool, working at the intersection of software automation engineering, AI/ML and calibration engineering. The position is full-time or at least 4 days per week for 6 months.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and enhance Python-based tools for the calibration workflow (data processing, batch automation, reporting, visualization).
• Maintain existing calibration utilities such as GUI tools, batch job tools and file parsers, and document them with user guides and best practices.
• Support the AI Calibration Quality Tool, which uses a Boosting-based ML model to detect abnormal airbag sensor signals: maintain the Python tool, improve feature extraction, analyse false positives/negatives and retrain the model with new datasets under engineer supervision.
• Implement automatic reporting of detected anomalies and integrate the AI module with existing calibration automation tools.
• Process and prepare crash test data from vehicle and lab tests.

Required profile

• Undergraduate student in Computer Science, IT, Electrical/Automotive Engineering or a related field.
• Official university recommendation letter with stamp (mandatory).
• Full-time or at least 4 days per week commitment for 6 months.
• Good English communication and teamwork skills.

Required skills

• Strong Python and C/C++ programming skills.
• Basic knowledge of machine learning fundamentals, signal processing, data structures and algorithms.
• Nice to have: Boosting models (XGBoost, LightGBM, CatBoost), sensor data and anomaly detection, MATLAB/Simulink, GUI development (Tkinter, PyQt, PySimpleGUI), data automation/scripting, and vehicle dynamics knowledge.

What we offer

• Monthly internship allowance plus meal and parking allowance.
• One day of paid leave per month.
• Trade union activities, team building and a company trip.
• Training programs and the chance to work on global projects.
