Front End Software Engineer

About the role

Manulife is hiring a Front End Software Engineer for its MITDC office. The role bridges the gap between users and backend developers, turning business and functional requirements into technical specifications and building, testing and maintaining frontend systems with a focus on performance and responsive design. It is a hybrid arrangement.

Key responsibilities

• Translate business and functional requirements into documented technical specifications or user stories.
• Design, code, maintain and test new system functionality, delivering code builds, documented unit test results and usable end products.
• Run pipelines to test, scan and package source code (source to image).
• Improve application loading speed and overall performance.
• Use a product lifecycle methodology and implement responsive design and cross-browser compatibility.
• Create interactive prototypes with modern effects, animations and transitions, and present them to stakeholders.
• Tweak tools and platforms to fit real-world use, and bridge the gap between users and backend developers.
• Write clean, extensive code, perform peer reviews and stay up to date with evolving technologies.
• Ensure consistent functionality and appearance across websites, software and web applications.

Required profile

• Knowledge of cloud-based application development and understanding of cloud fundamentals.
• Ability to lead projects or work streams independently, advise colleagues professionally and coordinate resources for a small team.
• Advanced problem-solving skills and ability to work with minimal guidance.
