Economic and Sustainable Finance Specialist

About the role

The Economic and Sustainable Finance Specialist will support UNDP Vietnam in linking economic analysis with finance and programme development across a range of sustainability transitions. Reporting to the Resident Representative, the role bridges policy, market incentives and financing mechanisms to mobilise public and private capital.

Key responsibilities

• Provide integrated economic and financing analysis to strengthen UNDP’s policy positioning, programme development and partnerships.
• Identify and articulate economic and financing dimensions of green growth, energy transition, carbon markets, biodiversity finance, climate risk finance, circular economy and related areas.
• Assess regulatory, policy and market developments, evaluate financing needs and opportunities, and translate insights into policy briefs, strategic notes and funding proposals.
• Work across programme teams to connect initiatives, identify synergies, and develop coherent economic and financing propositions for scaling.
• Lead or contribute to high‑quality concept notes, programme documents and funding proposals, ensuring robust economic rationale and financing strategy.

Required profile

• Strong background in economics, finance or related field with experience in sustainable development contexts.
• Demonstrated ability to analyse policy, regulatory and market trends and to produce concise analytical products for senior decision‑makers.
• Experience working with public and private finance instruments, including blended finance, development finance and private capital mobilisation.
• Proven track record of supporting programme development, resource mobilisation and partnership building.
