Senior Legal Adviser - Energy

About the role

DFDL Vietnam is looking for a Senior Legal Adviser specializing in Energy to join its Energy & Infrastructure practice. The role reports to the Heads of Practice Group and works alongside a dynamic, multicultural team on sophisticated, high-profile energy transactions. It is a full-time regular position in Hanoi or Ho Chi Minh City, Monday to Friday, 8:30am-12:30pm and 2:00pm-6:00pm, open to Vietnamese applicants only.

Key responsibilities

• Report to and take instruction from Partners, the Managing Director, Deputy Managing Director and supervising legal advisers.
• Provide legal advice exclusively on behalf of DFDL to its clients.
• Draft contracts, letters of advice, legal opinions and other legal instruments.
• Draft and deliver fee proposals, keep time records, review and revise invoices and help collect outstanding ones.
• Peer review the work of other advisers and supervise and coach junior legal advisers and legal assistants.
• Take part in business development, including government relations, chambers of commerce and business clubs.
• Take part in knowledge management, professional development and firm administration as requested.

Required profile

• University degree in Law and minimum 5 years of post-qualification experience as a lawyer.
• Excellent technical knowledge of Vietnam's energy laws, regulations and industry practices.
• Experience managing small teams, handling budgets and P&L, and leading and developing others.
• Track record of building a satisfied clientele of local and international corporations.
• Strong oral and written English, honesty, reliability and strict confidentiality.
• Preferred: previous experience in a law firm and/or multinational corporation.

Required skills

• Excellent knowledge of the MS Office suite.
• Strong commercial acumen and presentation skills.
• Ability to manage change, build teams and work under pressure to meet deadlines.
