Data Governance Lead

About the role

The Data Governance Lead establishes, implements and continuously improves the Data Governance Framework so that data is treated as a strategic enterprise asset. The role covers data governance policies, standards, data quality, metadata management, data ownership and regulatory compliance, and drives data accountability across business and technology functions. It works with senior stakeholders in Business Units, Risk Management, Compliance, Technology, Information Security and Operations.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and execute a Data Governance Strategy aligned with business objectives, and set up the framework, operating model and governance structure
• Define governance principles, policies, standards, procedures and controls, and lead the adoption of data governance best practices
• Drive data ownership and accountability across all business domains
• Oversee data policies and standards, including data quality, metadata, master data and reference data management, and define quality dimensions, metrics, thresholds and monitoring
• Monitor and report data quality performance, drive root-cause analysis and remediation
• Ensure compliance with regulations and data protection laws, support regulatory reporting, audits and inspections, and assess data-related risks
• Build governance maturity assessments, KPIs, KRIs, dashboards and executive reports for governance committees
• Engage senior business leaders, act as a trusted advisor and build a data-driven culture

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in IT, computer science, information systems, data science, business administration, finance or a related field; Master's preferred
• At least 5 years of experience in data governance, enterprise data management, banking operations, risk management or information management
• Minimum 3 years of leadership or managerial experience
• Experience in insurance, banking, financial services or highly regulated industries preferred
• Proven track record of establishing and managing enterprise data governance programs
