Head of Legal – Vietnam

About the role

The Head of Legal, Vietnam is a strategic leader responsible for legal risk management and governance across ANZ Vietnam. As a member of the ANZ Vietnam Executive Committee, you will support the Board, senior management and business units, providing legal advice on transactions, regulatory matters and customer outcomes.

Key responsibilities

• Lead identification, assessment and management of legal and regulatory risks affecting ANZ Vietnam’s business, protecting the bank from financial, legal and reputational exposure.
• Provide timely, strategic and commercially practical legal advice to senior management and business stakeholders on complex transactions, regulatory matters, customer issues and strategic initiatives.
• Oversee corporate governance requirements, including Board meetings, secretarial duties, shareholder meetings and board committees, and manage external counsel appointments and performance.
• Partner with Risk, Compliance and other control functions to ensure consistent legal, conduct and non‑financial risk management and support regulatory engagement.
• Lead, coach and develop the Vietnam Legal team, fostering an inclusive, high‑performing culture and ensuring appropriate development plans and resource coverage.

Required profile

• Bachelor of Laws or equivalent recognised law degree and current eligibility to practise law in Vietnam with a practising certificate and bar membership where required.
• Extensive post‑qualification legal experience within a major bank, financial institution or leading law firm, including advising on banking and finance, capital markets, corporate, commercial and regulatory matters.
• Strong knowledge of Vietnam’s legal and regulatory environment affecting banking and financial services.
• Proven ability to identify, assess, communicate and manage complex legal and regulatory risks and to provide strategic, commercially focused advice to senior executives.
• Experience managing external counsel, legal expenditure and material legal matters, and leading a legal team.
