Senior Backend Software Engineer II

About the role

Axon is looking for a Senior Backend Software Engineer II for its Ho Chi Minh City office, working in a hybrid setup (in person Tuesdays through Fridays, remote on Mondays unless an accommodation is approved). The role reports to a (senior) Software Engineering Manager and involves architecture decisions, cloud services with high availability and performance, and mentoring engineers in an AI-first engineering environment.

Key responsibilities

• Lead engineering architecture design reviews across squads and teams, using AI-driven insights and system modeling
• Set a high technical bar through code and architecture reviews, including evaluation of AI-generated code and design patterns
• Mentor junior to senior engineers on scalable system design, technical strategy and AI-first development practices
• Drive adoption of AI-assisted development tools and workflows, setting group-level standards and prompt engineering guidelines
• Work with Product, Design and Engineering leadership to turn business and technical goals into engineering strategy and execution plans
• Improve engineering processes by embedding automation, AI tooling and intelligent workflows
• Architect and build services with high availability and low latency for mission-critical domains
• Use AI systems to optimize performance, observability and operational efficiency across distributed systems

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering or a related field
• 8+ years of professional software development experience
• Experience designing highly available, scalable cloud-based systems and foundational services
• Experience with SQL or NoSQL data stores and scalable data architectures
• Experience building and operating public cloud services on Azure or AWS with Kubernetes and IaC
• Understanding of platform security: identity, access control, data encryption and secure service-to-service communication
• Experience driving SLOs, SLAs, operational excellence and incident response across multi-team organizations
• Experience establishing standards for AI-assisted development tools

Required skills

• Backend services in Go, Java, Scala, C# or similar
• Preferred: CI/CD (Jenkins, GitHub Actions), containerization (Docker, Podman), orchestration (Kubernetes, OpenShift)
• Preferred: IaC (Terraform, CloudFormation), monitoring/logging (Prometheus, Grafana, ELK), cloud providers (AWS ECS/EKS, Azure DevOps, Google Cloud Build)
• Preferred: DevSecOps tools and vulnerability scanning
