Senior Embedded Software Engineer II

About the role

Axon is looking for a Senior Embedded Software Engineer II for its Connected Devices team, based in the Ho Chi Minh City office on a hybrid schedule (in person Tuesdays through Fridays, remote on Mondays unless an accommodation is approved). The engineer sets the technical direction for embedded software powering public safety devices such as body-worn and in-car cameras, shapes architecture decisions and mentors engineers while driving the squad's roadmap.

Key responsibilities

• Own the technical direction of the squad and turn product goals into an engineering strategy, driving architectural decisions for embedded software.
• Lead design and architecture reviews for major components, features and systems, with a focus on stability, performance and safety-critical quality.
• Write well-tested, maintainable code and lead technical design and code reviews.
• Mentor and coach middle and senior engineers.
• Drive AI-assisted development practices, setting quality gates, review protocols and reusable workflows.
• Work with Product Management, Design and other engineering teams to deliver integrated solutions.
• Integrate open source technologies and improve engineering processes, including long-term planning, sprint execution and operational readiness.

Required profile

• 10+ years of professional software development in C/C++, Go, Python and/or another systems programming language.
• 5+ years mentoring junior team members and/or leading small teams.
• Track record of building well-tested software, including unit, integration and system-level testing.
• Understanding of computer science fundamentals: data structures, algorithms, run-time analysis, object-oriented design and code quality verification.

Required skills

• Strong experience developing, debugging and shipping embedded software on Linux-based or RTOS-based devices.
• Networking knowledge (TCP/IP, VPN, DNS, DHCP, tunneling) is a plus.
• Preferred: familiarity with Linux-based embedded environments and real-time constraints, and experience with consumer or professional hardware with tight security, low latency and high stability requirements.
• Preferred: experience using AI-assisted development tools with an understanding of review, validation and safety guardrails.
