Technical Advisor, Laboratory

About the role

The Technical Advisor, Laboratory will support FHI 360’s Global Health Security project in Vietnam by strengthening laboratory services for human and animal health surveillance. Based in Hanoi, the advisor will work closely with Ministry of Health partners, donors and project staff to improve laboratory quality, data use and outbreak response.

Key responsibilities

• Act as the laboratory technical focal point, coordinating with key stakeholders, donors and partners.
• Develop and implement improvement plans for surveillance laboratories across human and animal health sectors.
• Lead design and delivery of capacity‑building activities, including assessments, training workshops, biosafety, biorepository management and quality‑management systems.
• Provide onsite supervision, mentoring and technical support to maintain high‑quality testing services.
• Establish and promote functional laboratory referral networks and cross‑sectoral data sharing for outbreak response.

Required profile

• Vietnamese national with strong motivation and technical expertise in laboratory operations.
• Proven ability to develop collaborative relationships with internal and external partners.
• Experience in laboratory strengthening, surveillance or outbreak response is preferred.
• Capacity to introduce innovative methodologies and approaches to zoonotic and infectious disease monitoring.
