Civil Engineer / CSA Engineer – Field Inspection

About the role

The Civil Engineer / CSA Engineer will conduct field and laboratory testing, inspections and assessments of construction materials and structures for trunk road bridges, retaining walls and high‑mast lighting. Reporting to the Technical Manager, the role combines hands‑on technical work with guidance to junior staff and documentation of findings.

Key responsibilities

• Perform field and laboratory testing of soils, aggregates, concrete, asphalt and steel, and maintain equipment calibration.
• Carry out general and principal inspections of bridges, retaining walls and high‑mast lights, ensuring compliance with standards and specifications.
• Read and interpret blueprints and construction specifications to assess project requirements.
• Provide technical advice within budget and contractual limits, and follow internal procedures, accreditation schemes and legislation.
• Document findings, follow up on non‑compliance reports and support the Project Manager in defining testing scopes.
• Promote health and safety by reporting incidents, assessing risks and refusing unsafe work.

Required profile

• University degree in civil or structural engineering or equivalent.
• Minimum 3 years experience as a field inspector in civil construction.
• Knowledge of construction materials testing and inspection of bridges or similar structures.
• Successful completion of internal safety certifications.

Required skills

• Field testing and laboratory testing of construction materials.
• Interpretation of blueprints and construction specifications.
• Equipment operation and calibration.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
• Fluent English reading, writing and speaking.
