Senior Firmware Engineer (Platform Firmware Team)

About the role

Axon is looking for a Senior Firmware Engineer on its Platform Firmware team in Ho Chi Minh City. As a project technical leader, you lead the technical execution of firmware projects for current and next-generation Axon devices, from Board Support Package (BSP) development to robotics and camera-based products, setting quality standards and guiding peers. The role reports to the Engineering Manager, Platform Firmware.

Key responsibilities

• Lead firmware projects end-to-end, from design through validation and production support, and set quality standards and guide peers.
• Develop firmware for Embedded Linux or Embedded Android on SoCs and SoMs, and for microcontrollers and RTOS-based systems where required.
• Drive architecture and design decisions for Wi-Fi, Bluetooth/BLE, Sub-GHz and Cellular LTE/5G connectivity.
• Lead board bring-up, hardware integration and debugging with Electrical Engineering, and set direction for battery, power and thermal-management subsystems.
• Set testing strategy and maintain unit, integration and automated tests for safety-critical behavior.
• Manage cross-team dependencies across Firmware, Embedded Product, Electrical Engineering, Manufacturing, Compliance and external vendors.
• Write and review Software Design Reviews, Pre-Mortems and After Action Reviews, and lead incident resolution.
• Mentor L7 engineers and conduct interviews for L8/L9 candidates.
• Use agentic AI tools across design, implementation, testing, debugging and documentation, and coach the team on AI-assisted development.

Required profile

• B.S. in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or equivalent practical experience.
• 5+ years of industry firmware or embedded experience on IoT products.
• End-to-end ownership of firmware or embedded software projects for IoT, consumer electronics, robotics, automotive, networking or similar products.
• Experience mentoring engineers and contributing to interview processes.
• Experience using agentic AI tools and coordinating multiple AI agents.

Required skills

• C, C++, Rust, Golang or Python, with judgment to choose languages and tooling.
• Embedded Linux (kernel and user space) and BSP work, ideally with Yocto or OpenWRT.
• Computer architecture, concurrency, networking, data structures, algorithms and object-oriented design.
• Reading datasheets and schematics and debugging hardware-software issues.

Nice to have: Embedded Android/AOSP, RTOS and microcontroller firmware, cellular modems, robotics and 9-axis orientation algorithms, manufacturing/provisioning software, and prior leadership of cross-functional programs.
