Assistant Manager, Full Stack Software Engineer

About the role

Manulife is hiring an Assistant Manager, Full Stack Software Engineer for its MITDC office. The role works across the full software development lifecycle, designing, developing, testing and maintaining business applications, and leads projects or work streams independently.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop, test, deliver and maintain business applications, including end-user interfaces, databases, APIs and server-side logic.
• Apply disciplined coding practices, design patterns, automation and semantic versioning, and use development frameworks and third-party libraries.
• Write detailed system design specifications, create prototypes and assist in building automated test harnesses.
• Perform technical spikes, troubleshoot errors and bugs, and take part in peer code reviews.
• Complete required documentation such as deployment, maintenance, support and business needs.
• Lead projects or work streams, advise colleagues on technical topics and coordinate resources for a small team.

Required profile

• Minimum 4 years of software engineering experience.
• Experience developing cloud-based applications and understanding cloud fundamentals.
• Ability to design architectural designs for applications and understand caching mechanisms and resilience measures.
• Strong foundation in data structures, algorithms and OO design, with solid programming skills.
• Independent work style with minimal guidance, and ability to filter, interpret and validate dynamic information.

Required skills

• Back-end and front-end technologies and frameworks, including Angular and Java microservices.
• Proficiency in fundamental web technologies and programming and scripting languages.
• Testing frameworks and tools, and familiarity with CI/CD, API development, DevSecOps and data modeling.

The position is offered on a hybrid working arrangement.
